Subject: Exhaust for torque?
IP: Logged

Message:
The time has come to put exhaust on my 92 V6 4X4. I like to go off-roading, so I want to get the most torque out of my engine. Currently, I have what I presume to be the stock dual 2(?) inch into single 3 inch. I removed the catalytic convertor, and the tailpipe and muffler have rusted off. I'll find out this week if everything needs to be replaced. Assuming I'm starting from scratch, what should I have? Would a cat-back type system be best, or should I maybe run true duals all the way back with a smaller pipe?

I tried several different exhaust setups on my truck since i had a lot of old pipe lying around. i tried straight pipes (no cats or mufflers) and there was no torque. I tried cherry bombs and they didn't help. What i finally settled on was the stock size pipes, stock cats, and a Flowmaster 40 series muffler. This gave me the most torque out of any exhaust, headers would probably help as well.

I have a 92 V6 and I put on a dynomax 3" muffler and 3" tailpipe. I also took out the cat. My truck has loss a lot of low end power, but he sound it makes is awesome. I would suggest to stay with the stock size pipes and just change the muffler to a free flowing type.

arzadon the reason you have no torque is your pipes are way too big. a single 2 1/2 will give you all your missing torque back If you want duals go down to 1 3/4 all the way back. anything bigger will rob you of torque.
