Message: you are talking about the gear ratio ie. 3.55 turns of the pinion gear yields 1 turn of the ring gear. The higher the number the lower the gear.

Message: Also, look at it this way --
3.55 = good all purpose gear ratio, moderate acceleration, decent towing performance, better fuel mileage.
3.92 = mildly performance oriented, good acceleration, good towing performance, average fuel mileage.
4.10 = mostly performance oriented, best acceleration, a little high for light duty towing, less fuel mileage.
The 4.10 gear set will make the truck accelerate faster, but it has the drawback of making the gears seem 'shorter' and lowers the top-end speed. This gear set will bring the best 0-60's and 1/4 mile times of the three ratios, but also raises your RPMs at highway speeds and can make a dent in the pocketbook from fuel costs. Also makes a good towing set for medium/heavy loads; may be a little much for light duty towing.
The 3.92 gear set is a good all around, performance oriented gear set. It has a much higher ratio than the stock 3.55:1 and improves acceleration without being too high. You will notice a loss of fuel mileage vs. the 3.55:1, but it will not be quite as bad as the 4.10's. This is a good gear set for medium duty towing as well, as the truck makes a little better use of it's power under a load such as a boat, car trailer, etc.
The stock gears, the 3.55:1 set, is a good all-purpose gear set. You get the best fuel mileage and top speed with this set... But you will find yourself pushing the accelerator a lot further to get the truck up to speed. This set is also good for towing but don't expect to go too fast under a medium load. I'd say it's better suited for a light duty towing setup.
Well, that's my spiel... This is just based on general automotive knowledge, not Dodge-specific experience. If anyone has more ideas/comments, please post them! Knowledge is power :p
