 Subject: What radar detector actually works?

I live in a mostly rural area, but we do have our jackass cops and staties :-) (they dont like to be asked to race, dont know why....) but anyways, what radar detector out there actually works? I want something that does laser, radar, the whole deal, but I dont wanna spend 300 bucks. Anyone got ideas?

I got a "Escort" Radar detector.... It's an old on though. Not sure the model #, But I Will get it and post it here. I've had it for 2 or 3 yrs. I have tried the new ones, but I don't think they work as well. I'll get the model # and let you know.

get a Escort or Passport. if u look around u can find em in the $100-$200 range. especially on ebay.

I bought a Uniden LRD 767 Radar Detector, not the best but it was an awsome price (ebay). I love, works really really well... Plus it has a compass... and Text Display... Saved me probably hundreds of bucks, in the long run... Good price, and works juts as good as a Cobra...

Who are the escorts made by? Are there any radar detectors out there that arent the obvious windshield mounted ones? I hate cigarette lighter plugs and my stereo will probably kick it off the glass. Any ideas?

Hey guys. The cops have trigger activated radar too. They can point the gun at your car, pull the trigger, and your radar detector will go off after the cops have busted you. Definitely don't rely on radar detectors...use common sense instead.
By the way, those Crown Victoria Police Interceptor models are fast... not that that matters anyway though, because running from the cops to avoid a traffic ticket, or for any reason, is completely stupid

Sporttruck, Yes crown vics can move. Especialy with the police package. If you even think of trying to out run one in you're truck, you will go to jail. I've driven my share of police interceptor CV's and they will dust you're truck. 0-60, 1/4 mile, top end, you name it. You'd have to make some serious mods to your'e truck to hang with one. :-]

I knew a guy in college that was working on a devise that went under your hood that would scramble radar equiptment. It was his lifes dream. Don't know how far he actually got. Anyone ever hear of anything like that?

Yeah, I've heard of those. They're illegal, banned by the FCC or something. I've heard that cops can tell when you have them because they make radar guns do weird stuff.

get the bel 980....i`ve tried many many radars and this one gives you the best warning and is software upgradable to new types of radar....go to www.beltronics.com and find out for yourelf who is best...
