Subject: N20 Switch Placement IP: Logged
Message: Ok, so i'm going to install my NX Kit soon (i hope so) I'm looking for a good place to mount the switches. There are a couple of limiting factors, i have a full bench..no console, i also have a total of 4 switches
1. Bottle Opener (a square rocker switch)
2. Bottle Heater Switch
3. Arm switch
4. Purge Button
I would have licked to mout them on the small console (beneath my stick shift), but i need 2 inches of clearance for the switches and crimps (soddering them would not work down there either.
I would mount them under the lighting controls (left side) but i have a long legs and am worried about arming something by mistake.
They will not fit over by the cig. lighter.
I would like to be able to see them and keep them in one spot.
Ideas anyone?

Message: get some aluminum (local hardware store) and build a little mount for them and have it hang under your dash kinda towards the center of the dash. Get some sand paper and sand it to give it that brushed look.
When building the mount... bend sides for it (like a box, but with no back) to hide the wires. That would kinda be a professional look.
just a suggestion. Me... i put my switches where the passenger airbag switches were.

Message: another option would be.. order a center floor console from a 4x4 5speed. it has a large opening where the transfer case selector lever should be. then do like intense said and get a nice piece of aluminum, sand it to get the brushed look. there should be plenty of room under the console to route wires and it would almost look stock. it sounds all good in theory. good luck

Message: When i was buying all the switches i bought a super nice peice of aluminum (looks brushed already...damn that thing was 13 bucks!) i was going to use it as the background for the switches, but i may angle it on the floor console.
Nice idea eric, but i have a 4x4....yes i know, n20 in a 4x4.

Message: Do you smoke? What i did in my 96 was take the ashtray out, cut away the metal top portion of the ashtray so you have clearance for the switches. Pop out the actual tray. Cut a piece of plastic so that is fits flush with he top of the ashtray. Glue it in and mount your switches on there. Theres plenty of room and it's compltely hidden until you flip open the ash tray. I used red plastic, lighted rocker switches, and i stuck the embossed NOS sticker on there that came with my kit. It took 30 minutes to do. cost me nothing because i had the plastic lying around and it looks completely professional.

Message: keep the sleeper look like Jon said. a problem could be shifting. or if you're really "crafty", install them on the steering wheel like Fast and the Furious."
