Subject: Basic Question, - Spark Plug Heat Shield IP: Logged
Message: Quick/Basic Question, Im changing the Spark Plugs in my 98 Dak 3.9L V6, I see what looks like a metal tube/heat shield around the plugs.
Here's my assumption on the steps, can someone confirm before i action:
-Pull off the Plug wire/Boot
-wiggle loose & remove the tubular heat shield with a pair of pliers
-remove the Spark Plug after cleaning the area with compressed air.
installation is the opposite of the above.
My main gap in knowledge here comes from knowing if the heat shields can/must be removed "before" the plug comes out. thx in advance for any help

Message: I never had to remove the sheild to get to the plug (used and extension), but i'm sure it would make it easier of the ones in the back.

Message: i have never removed the heat shields either, just take the rubber cap off, then blow out the shield and remove plug and put new one in.

Message: It's not necessary to remove the heat shields to remove the plugs. Alot of people (myself included) take them out and don't put them back. They trap dirt and hold heat.
