IntenseDAK, what method did you use for extending the wiring to the sensor connector? I'm assuming that you clipped the wires a few inches back from the sensor, then spliced new wire into the harness? Just curious...

yep, thats all we did. Cut, put in longer wire, taped it up, and hid the wire so it isnt so noticable.

Stupid question, what's this IAT sensor, and where is it located, and what will it do by relocating it? Thanks

IAT= Intake Air Temperature Sensor

It is located on the front passenger side of your intake manifold. It uses the temp to do computer adjustments with the fuel and such. By moving it to a colder source of air it can adjust the fuel curve and timing a bit. Ever notice how your truck always seems to run stronger when first started up then after driving awhile... thats because the air is colder because the engine hasnt gotten hot yet.

I moved mine and I'll admit it is a great mod if you want that extra little pep. But if you think this mod will not affect your gas mileage you are wrong.

Or atleast in my case my fuel mileage went down. I was getting 16.8 mpg's before I moved the IAT. After I moved it I was down to around the 15.5 mpg range.

My fuel mileage may have gone down at first because I was on the GO pedal a little heavier. But after a couple of fill ups I noticed the drop in MPG's and started to ease off the GO pedal and still could only get it to 15.5mpg.

Just my personal experience.

92dakotahd, if your wondering, yes you have one, helped a friend move his the other day on a 92.

BL, thats to be expected as relocating it increases your timing thus increasing fuel consumption.

Cool. Thanks FazDak, I was curious. So is it the plug thing in the side of the intake just below the air hat on the left side(looking at the engine from front.) Sticking in sideways?

No problem dude, I love helping out fellow Gen2'ers.
Do you have a cold air system? if not you'll need one to mount it in unless you wanna be crazy and mount it in your fender or something like IntenseDak39 did.
You'll want to get it as far upstream as possible as the cooler the air on it the more the timing will be advanced. Home Depot or Lowes will have the pipe plug you'll need to plug the hole in the intake after you remove the sensor.

I did mine a year ago or more and I remember feeling quite a difference especially on warm days when the Dak used to feel sluggish after it warmed up, it changed that a bunch.

Good luck guys, Scott

All I have now is a drop in K&N. I have a "ram-air"(I know it's not actually so) hood that I got around christmas and haven't found the fundage to get painted, and fit with an airbox/filter. So I'll probably keep the mod up the pipe in hopes of soon running it to the airbox were it'll be really "cool"

I just did the mod (moved it into the airhose between my air filter, and the TB), and I'm draining my collant to put in a new thermostat, but when I started the truck real quick after I noticed my RPMs are higher.

I am supposed to plug that hole, right? I just used a half inch bolt from menards
