Subject: Recommeded Tire Sizes

Message:
I recently purchased a set of RT rims and am now looking for some good tires. I went to the local tire shop and they told me that the recommended tire size for the 17x9 RT Rim was 275/55/17???
Huh??? Someone help me out here because I'm confused. I thought that the tire size was 255/55/17 stock!!! I don't think this guy knows his stuff.

Any help is appreciated.

the 20 mm wider width of the tire the salesman wants you to buy amounts to about 3/4 inch wider tire which gives both more straightline and cornereing traction, whats wrong with that? it only sticks out 3/8 of an inch more on each side of the rim so interferance would be small at worst, and then only on full lock turns. plus the tire is slightly larger in dia, which helps out hiway milage, but cut into drag times a bit so it is realy a tossup as to what you want cornering and milage or drag race times.

I have Pirelli Scorpion Zero-P275/55 17 R'S. They're GRRRRREAT! However, they do stick out beyond the fenders-nothing fender flares can't handle. But I don't have them-YET. Also,on angled turns (when turned as far as it goes)there is a very slight tire-fender rub. This causes no noticeable damage. These wear very well also. I've had them for 1 year. They still have goot tread left. And I push them to the limit. I got them and a set of 17"Enkei rims from discount tire company for cheap($1,600)
