Subject: stalling at low rpm's when stopping IP: Logged
Message: well, for the first week, the truck was great, 3.9 CC 2000 dakota. well today on the way home, it was sputtering as i came to a stop, it did it everytime i was coming to stop would idle at like 400 and die but smooths out and runs fine if you give it gas. all gauges cool, no check engine light or anything. My kick down cable was broke and we put a new one in tonight, but it didnt solve it. any ideas guys, at all, we put a small clip where the throttle hits the plate to open it up a little, its ok for now, what could this be, i doubt plug/wire/distributor prob cuz it smooths out or fuel filter cuz it only sputters at low idle. and we did have it idling for about ten minutes, put it in gear and poooof. any help is appreciated. thanks

Message: I think that it is a Chrysler corporation defict. It seems that some of their V6's have stallin problems. On most of them it is either the crankshaft position sensor or the ignition system. My parents have a 1993 Concorde and the two of thoes were replaced and that seemed to be the fix. I hope this was of some help.

Message: Yeah, I had the same problem with my 2001 sixer. I was just pulling out of a parking spot one day, and the d4mn thing stalled...hrmm. It only does it *very* rarely. I dont think that it is anything to worry about. (i hope!)

Try some autolites, cheap and easy to instal.

Message: I agree with Jesse T, mine was getting pretty close to stalling after I moved to Florida (all the way from Michigan towing a trailer, 4th gear, 85mph). Took the stock plugs out, and they were incrediably worn.
Also, looking into a Borg&Warner cap and rotor, I did mine at the same time, the stock rotor contacts were pretty shot.
Basically it's a tune up. :0)

Message: Mine did it too when i first got it...i'd go boggin through mud and it would all of a sudden die on me...hasn't happened in about 3 months though...course now that it is hot out i haven't done any mud running cause there is no mud, but it never does it out at the dunes.

Message: as i said it only does it when you shift into gear or coming to a stop, we jerry rigged the throttle w/ a little spacer just to keep it from stalling and it runs fine at all other rpm's, gonna change plugs tom. night, it just started out of the blue one day after i got on it a good bit to pull out. any more ideas are appreciated.

Message: Well, well, it seems like this is a common problem; just like warping brake rotors. I thought I had a lone wolf. My dealer diagnosed it as a ais motor and replaced it twice on their dime. Still no better. Even worse when the air is on (most of the time in PHX). I have tried the autolite plugs to no effect. Next is the best quality rotor and cap I can find. I have a Mopar Motorhead friend who is looking into doing something with the codes on the chip. He has a friend who sucessfully programs his own curves. More as this develops. Maybe he can raise the minimum idle speed w/o using the 'spacer' thingy.

Message: It's the battery. I tested it the other day. If you leave lights on for just a little bit or play stereo with engine off or any drain on the battery while not charging will cause it to run like crap and stall if you do not keep your foot on the gas. I charged it up a little bit and then drove it for a while came back shut it off and let it sit for a while and then tried it again and it started right up and idled perfectly. This is what I have encounterd and it sounds like your problems are the same. I think dodge puts weak batteries in their trucks or something.

Message: i doubt its the battery, i just changed plugs tonight , no difference, i have a body clip on the throttle to keep it open a tad til i take into dodge next week. Do these things come w/ bosch platinum plugs, thats what was in it, i know they are expensive but they are in the el garbage. I doubt its the battery cuz it ran fine, and one day after i gunned it ran like this. i have a stereo system and its pulling a good bit of power but if the batttery was low the amp would cut out and it doesnt, im stumped....
