Subject: Flowmaster 40 or 50 Series??

Ok, I've thought long and hard about what I'm going to do for the exhaust for my truck. I was going to do a Gibson cat-back, but at this point, seeing as though it's a 4x4, I am just going to replace the muffler and keep that low end torque. My question is, out of the two listed above, what would you guys suggest (Part #'s?)? Also, is the Delta Series worth it or does it quiet the truck down a lot? Any experiences with the two would also be appreciated. Thanks.

I have a 40 on my 3.9 and it's too loud in the cab and not loud outside... it depends on what you want.

I wish I had gone with a 50... but the place wasn't going to have them for 2 weeks... so i went with the 40... oh well... now i sound like a honda at the higher RPMS

i like the 50 series (3 chamber) on my 3.9. It has got a lower tone and can be loud when you want it to. The 40 series is a 2 chamber and sounds better on the v8's. It makes the 3.9's sound like they are tryin too hard in the higher rpm's.....i have heard few with the Delta 40's that sound like rice burners when they go over 3,000 rpm's.

1998 3.9 automatic...3.55, jet stage 2, 180* t-stat,K&N cold air intake, V8 tb, JBA headers, High flow cat, Delta 50 flowmaster dual exhaust, 8.5mm wires, bosch sparks, 19# injectors. Im addicted and i can not stop?......So I will just go faster!

Flowmaster 70 Series - fits right in, 28" long O/L, 2 1/2" in/out pipes, no need for extra pipes all you need is the muffler and to clamps. Put the 70 Series in last week, sounds good and has added power through all rpm's range. Flowmaster 70 Series #52571

70 series is much quieter......if that is what you are lookin for go for it.....You get higher flow out(than stock, not the 50's), but it does not sound nearly as nice.......What makes me the expert? I just do my homework..............>

i have the 40 series and love it. it is true however that it doesnt sound that great at higher rpms.

i cut the exhaust right after the muffler which made it much louder and deeper, which is what i wanted. the only problem is that it is pretty loud inside, which bothers some of my passengers but im used to it. the funnest part is that i now can set off sensitive car alarms as i drive thru a parking lot!!
i havent heard the 50 series so i cant compare the two

Hey guys, thanks for the suggestions. Still not sure which muffler I'm going to use at this point, but I think I'm either going to go with the 50 or the 70 series. I use the truck as a daily driver so I'm not 100% sure I want something too loud. It's kinda funny going from that big 360 to the 239, but I do have to say that with the 5 speed in this truck and it being an RC, the truck moves fairly well. In the past there would be no question on exhaust choice (40 series on the old truck), but I am looking for something that's going to sound great throughout the rev range and not too much interior resonance (50 series Delta flow ;) ). Well, thanks again for your input guys, I really do appreciate it.

Jamie

BTW, this site is definitely informative and you guys seem like a great bunch of enthusiasts. Keep up the good work!
