Subject: Exhaust question...

Message:
I was wondering...I don't want two huge pipes sticking out the back of my truck, and I don't want to go cutting pipes or replacing anything. I just want to unbolt my muffler and stick a throatier, deeper-sounding on on in-place.

Anyone had any luck with theirs -- or anyone know the dimensions & pipe size.

Now, I don't want this to sound like some import car or anything, and I know it isn't going to have the rumble of a 360 or a 318 for that matter, I just want to give off a little more rumble.

So -- anyone have any luck making their 3.9's sound any throatier? thanks a lot

Dave I just put a DynoMax 17733 on my 01 Dak CC 3.9 at 700 miles now have 1400 on it and love it, nice rumble at idle or when you stomp down on it, but doesn't buzzzzz you out of the cab as your going down the road. and it doesn't sound Ricy

Also put K&N FIPK on at the same time, makes a big difference in our little 3.9's

Have photos of both installs I can e-mail

I have heard a lot of people put either a 40 or 50 series flowmaster on in place of the stock muffler. I know it 2.5" in 2.5" out, but I'm not sure of the length.

I went with a daul flomaster after cat system. Also a cold Air home brew K&N intake. Made a big difference in the umph of the truck. Sounds nice too. I am soon going to get headers and a freeflowing cat. Just remember to let your engine breathe as best it can. Good Luck.

I've got a question. I've already installed a
cat-back system on my 3.9, it sounds
awesome by the way - 3 inch pipe. Now I want
to install a K&N FIPK but apparently the
people at K&N don't make one for a 2001 V6
Dakota! Any body know who makes one?
Where to get one similar?

Andy, make one. I did out of PVC/ABS 3in pipe and a 9in K&N cone filter. Just cut the pipe to fit where you want it to go, Apply the K&N to the front side, and attach the pipe via a 3in fernco connector to the stock air intake. Works great. Mine home brew really work up my V6er in the low range.
Good Luck Joe E.
