Message: I am a fairly new dak owner but have already made a few small mods, when i found this site. I have heard many people talk about the autolites 3923's and the 185 deg t-stat and i am curious. Does htis really afect drivability idle or gas mileage in a note worthy way. also if anybody knows which is the best K+N air filter for the edlebrock 14*3 inch cleaner it would be much appreacated.

Message: YES, YES and YES. The 3923 give your engine a smoother idle and the thermostat keeps the engine at a cooler temp. The cooler the engine, the more POWER it produces. MORE POWER....isn't that what it is all about?

Message: 98FlameRdDak, Is there a good site to go to find the items you listed, or is the local parts store good enuff? I've been looking into the plugs and thermostat. But what is the differance really there between the 185 deg. and the 180 that speed tweaks calls for?? Just a honest question. Thanks..

Message: Thanks for your help, also i have been thinking about the v8 tb do the think the dynomax turbo muffler will flow enough air or should i switch
to something like a 40 series flowmaster. also on the plugs is the stock gap of .035 good or is something else better

Message: Any auto store should stock the Autolite 3923. Heck, I bought mine at Walmart. As long as they say 3923 and they are made by Autolite, then they must be Autolites.
As for the thermostat....again, you should be able to find that at any parts store. I bought my 180 degree thermo at Auto Zone. When you tell the clown behind the counter you want a thermostat for your truckie and he tells you the computer calls for a 195 degree stat, tell him you are aware of this but you want a 180 instead. The clown is just doing his job, mostly because that is what the computer is telling him.
Make sure you buy a new thermo gasket....
As for the V8 TB switch. I don't think I am going to bother to spend the money on that conversion. I can't see what possible gains I am going to get out of it. Even it were to increase my gas milage 1 mpg, in my opinion it isn't worth the money. Right now I am getting about 15 mpg city driving and all I have done is a few simple mods. If someone were to tell me that I would gain another 4 mpg with the V8 TB conversion, I would think about it. Since I am not out racing my truck, I can't see the cost.
Just my opinion......
