Subject: Changing out Factory Grill have question IP: Logged
Message: Hello everyone
I see alot of you changed you Factory front grill. I would like to do that and I found a way to do it w/o voiding my warranty. But I have one question.
How did you reroute your hood relase???
If I cover up the grill I can't get at the Hood latch.
If anyone has done this please let me know and if anyone have them.. pictures of how you did it so i can get an idea of how to do it.
Thankx

Message: most companys say to put a chain or rope on the latch where there is a hole.....but i scratched my grill doing that and it took awhile to open so i use a small screw driver and puch the latch in with it......it is much easier and doesnt scratch anything.

Message: its actually pretty simple. there are pics out
there. i don;t have anythough sorry. do a search
you'll find them. i jsut drilled a hole in my
latch passed a wire through it and ran it down
through a small tube that was secured to my grille
frame. at the end of the wire i attached a ring so
i can grab it when i pop the hood. it takes mabye
10 min. the pics are out there when i find some
i'll post em

Message: I replaced the factory grille by cutting out the fins and installing rain gutter mesh. Used 2 sections to do the upper grille and 1 to do the lower valance. Before I did it, I re-routed the hood latch using a short section of 1/4 inch pvc, a few clamps and a lawnmower pull rope with t-handle. I have some pics of it and you can't see it from the front of the truck, unless you are right on top of it. It looks a little crude from the inside, but I'm already working on a second generation hood release that will be functional and look better. If you'd like to see the pics I have of the hood latch release, email me (addy below) and I'll send them along to you. BTW, everything I have invested in re-doing the grille cost me less then $20, including the gutter mesh.
