Subject: 3.9L HP Peak IP: Logged
Message: Where does the 3.9L engine peak with the HP? Is it right at redline or slightly before? I've got a 97' V6er and was just wondering where I should be shifting at when at the track.
Thanks

175HP @ 4400 RPM, 230 ft. lbs @ 3200 RPM, stock. So it's a bit before the redline...

Message: just because it peaks there doesnt necessarily mean that you should shift there... if it holds that peak for longer then you would wanna shift later to keep the hp going...
you should really get a dyno done on your truck to see its range and where to shift at.

what is the best way to get an auto through the gears?? just flooring it or is there a technique??? do u get to 60 faster if u stay in second or if u let it shift??(problem there is if it goes to third @55 or so and u floor it, it goes back to second, i wish there was a way to prevent downshifts while accelerating.

Message: Geoff,
No, have you? I haven't the time, nor money to do so at the moment. Although there is some talk on the General board about some people getting together in Florida, so I may go to that and see what there is to see... I would -like- to think I've got 200HP at the crank now, at least. I'd be -happy- with 175RWHP. I'd be -extactic- if I had 300ft/lbs of torque.
But... all I have is Mr Butt Dyno, and he isn't very accurate. I do know my truck runs better, gets better gas milage, and merges better than it ever has.

Message: Hey LlBlackdak, I just floor it. I can get it to shift pretty much when ever I want it to. Normaly I try to get it to shift at about 4500-4800rpms. That seems to be were the power is. I think I have heard somewhere that the power band drops off sharply after 4900rpms.

Message: Geoff,
Heh... come to think of it, I don't know where the is one either. All I know is I like it :0)
Thinking of possibly selling mine, though, in early-mid 2003. I'd like to pick up a 5.2L Club Cab 5-speed, and build it up. Just waiting to graduate and see what happens...

Best of 11.0 @63MPH so far. That was last year before the intake and V8 TB.

If you haven't taken it to the track you may be suprised how slow it does.
I was told by some guy that I would probably run 12's or 13's but went out and ran 11.
Can beat the rangers and s-10's so that's cool.
