Message: 1989 Dodge Dakota v6 floods when idling and will not
run. Replaced Distributor, plug wires, plugs, and
idle position sensor. Does not have place to connect
code reader but can not find out what is wrong.

Message: Pull the vacuum line off the fuel pressure regulator when the truck is running and see if there is fuel coming out of the vacuum port on the regulator. I had the same symptoms on my 1990 years back. If there is fuel coming out of the vacuum port then your fuel pressure regulator is bad. If it's not the FPR it could be the coolant temp sensor.

Message: One other thing I must mention. If your FPR is bad make sure after you replace it you unhook the battery cable and leave it unhooked for 5 or 10 minutes to reset the computer. If the truck was run for a long time with a bad FPR the computer's long term fuel trims will be all out of wack and the engine probably will not run well unless the computer is reset by unhooking the battery.
