Subject: 5speed clutch issue IP: Logged
Message: I picked up a ‘99 dakota sport 4x4 3.9 which someone had
swapped a 2002ish 5speed (nv3500?) into.
The issue is you could not disengage the clutch, it would move
and drive and I could float the gears but no clutch.
It had a brand new slave cylinder in it.
The previous owner said the wrong pressure plate is in it. I tried all
sorts of things before removing the transmission, like changing
the slave C pushrod length,I even fabbed up a mechanical lever to
push in the pressure plate with no luck on getting the clutch to
disengage.
I’ve removed the tranny, the pressure plate from my research is
from a ‘99 trans 10.5 “ clutch. Definitely a used unit I feel like the
pressure plate is bad but not certain, the tines are out of wack and
just looks used up.
So at this point my main question is.
Do I replace with a 10.5 “ clutch that bolts up to the ‘99 flywheel?
Or get the 12” clutch and install a 2002 ish flywheel to fit?
Ithanjs in advance!!

Message: Update, Ive bench tested the pressure plate, seems like it does
what it’s supposed to, it does release with movement at the clutch
side distance of pressure of the plate distance + 1/16 . Moves
roughly 1/2” at the throw out bearing side. I don’t know what the
actual specs are though .
Slave cylinder throw versus pp movement.
Also , the pressure plate does not have equal distance all around
when I bench test. But my test setup is a little janky.
