Message: I have a 93 dakota 3.9 magnum with 187k
miles. It runs like a champ well did. Not

Message: I had a similar issue with my 89 Dakota and it ended up being a leak in a fuel line inside the fuel pump assembly inside the gas tank. Do a check of the fuel pressure to see if it is low pressure. Also check for any cracked or broken vacuum lines.

Message: Mine was intermittent too and I replaced my
fuel pump without thinking too much about it,
but then i noticed a correlation with it
happening when i was under 1/4 tank of gas.
When i removed tank and pump again, i noticed a
pin hole in one of the fuel hoses at
approximately the level of the fuel. I suspect
that when the fuel level was above the pin
hole, it offered additional resistance to the
leaking and it ran okay. Strange things happen.
I really don't have enough information about
your problem to make a full diagnosis, but that
is why I suggest checking the basics. To run
correctly, you need fuel, air and spark. If
one of the three is not working correctly, an
engine will not run correctly. In fuel
injected systems, there are other things that
can impact proper running, such as the throttle
position sensor, which you can check with an
ohm/volt meter. The cam position sensor (in
distributor on Magnum V8) can also cause
issues, but this will usually trigger a
diagnostic code. Recheck the cap and rotor to
make sure they are properly seated and there
isn't any damage inside the cap. Also make
sure your plug wires are properly seated on the
spark plugs. Some of the other common magnum
issues typically wouldn't cause the driving
symptoms you are having.
