I have a 2000 Dakota, 2wd, automatic, 135k miles. Yesterday morning in the early a.m. just a few miles from home it started to overheat- in 3degree weather. I pulled over, got a tow back home. The lower radiator hose had slush in in it so I took the hose off, allowed the radiator to thaw in a heated environment, reassembled and filled with antifreeze. I let it run for a time, topping coolant off as the level became low, repeated this for an hour with the temp never rising past 190 on the dash gauge. The thermostat appears to be opening properly according to the temp gauge. With the coolant full, cap on, I allowed it to idle for 60 minutes and all was good- temp never went past the 200 mark, heater blew hot air, etc, However within 2 miles of driving it overheated again to the point of steam rolling when I was able to get it parked. I think I have covered everything… Any ideas?

Check to see if you see coolant
flowing through the upper hose after
it has come to operating temp. If not
then you will need a water pump .
