Subject: 94 Dakota Blower Fan and Radio Quit IP: Logged
Message: Yesterday as I was driving, i noticed my dash was smoking. I pulled over and the wires were hot. Now my Blower Fan and my Radio arent working, neither is the ring that lights up around the key ignition.
All of my other dash lights work, cig lighter etc. I have already checked the fuses.
Before I dig out the blower motor itself, what could it be? Thanks so much in advance for all the information!
Have a great FRIDAY!!!!

Message: Possibly short to ground on
ignition circuit. Have you had
time to look more closely? Pull
the steering upper and lower
shroud? (Torx 15 or 20 if I
recall correctly). Pull the
serving column cover? Pull
radio look at wire behind. Any
new findings?

Message: New Findings. The 50 AMP Fuse under the hood in the Fuse Relay box keeps blowing. It will work for a few minutes and then just stop. I thought it may be pulling to much voltage with the bmotor and radio so I pulled out the radio. Wiring harnesses looked fine, and i disconnected them. Replaced the 50 Amp fuse, It worked. Shut of the truck. Went to leave, and it didnt work.
No, I havent had time to look closer at the wires under the dash. (I live in Iowa and its cold, snowy, and wet outside.) I will once it gets nice out.

Message: Ok. So I am looking in my Dakota factory service manual and you are talking about the RED 50 amp ignition fuse in the PDC socket E? Or a different fuse in the PDC? So when it blows you install a new 50 amp? And then that one gets hot and blows due to heat build up again? Do I understand you correctly? How are the other fuses in the PDC like C? Some kind of overload on ignition circuit. E goes straight to the ignition switch. Does it blow when key switched to accessory and run/start? Or only run/start?

Message: Yes the red 50 AMP (Heater Blower/Ign 93 Dodge Dakota Sport) in the power dist. It blows the 50 AMP fuse when the truck starts.
Right to the left of the 50 amp has ground wires running to a relay that goes to the internal fuse box. All the other fuses I have are good.

Message: It has me stumped. On my PDC box I have a specific fuselink for the ac/heater blower motor and one for the ignition switch. I will have to pull it into the garage this weekend and check o ut the voltage and check the wires in the engine and under the dash. It prob wouldnt hurt to check all the ground wires either.
Thank you for your help! Its greatly appreciated!

Message: I see this is very old, if you get this I was
wondering if you ever figured out what it was? I
have a 1993 dodge Dakota with the same problem. It
keeps blowing the 50 amp fuse just after a little
bit of it working.
