Subject: TOPIC: HARD START AND STALLING OUT..... IP: Logged
Message: ...after sitting for several hours.
I recently bought a 98 Dodge Dakota w/3.9 engine.
It has a hard starting issue after sitting several
(6+ Hrs or so).
The engine cranks normally (good battery/starter)
and will eventually start and idle just fine.
When you go to put it in gear and take off, as soon
as you hit the gas pedal it stalls out.
On trying to restart, it cranks normally and once
again eventually (after a minute or so) will
restart and idle fine.
Once the engine is warmed up, it does not stall (AS
MUCH).
The engine runs good (when warm), the gas tank is
full of new gasoline.
I just read about the Flooded engine procedure
.....hold the pedal down 80% turns OFF the fuel
injectors. (Thanks to Eric's article!) and have yet
to try it. I wasn't aware that a EFI engine had
this feature.
So WHY is my truck stalling out and what can I do
about it ?
TIA !

Message: We are here to listen to your problems.
Clean your throttle body and idle air control. Buy a new throttle position sensor!
