Subject: Overdrive shut off IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1995 Dodge Dakota that I just bought. The overdrive shut off switch stays lit and the truck will not shift into overdrive. I have checked the fuses and check it after the truck has warmed up but the light stays on and the truck will not shift into overdrive.

Message: I had the same problem, the switch
inside the button is sticking. I just took
mine apart, you'll have a little yellow
piece right behind the outer clear
button that has a little plastic rod
attached. The little rod goes through a
small hole and presses on a lever in the
switch. With the plug end facing you
and looking at the lever just rub the
lever with your finger tip tuards the
plug side, this should release the
switch. Plug the switch back in without
putting it back together to make sure
your light is off. If it is still on, put the
yellow rod through the small hole and
depress the lever again, you may have
to release the lever with your finger tip
again. If you unplugged it again, plug it
back in and make sure the light is off.
This is only a temporary fix if you
intend on turning your o/d off again it
will most likely stick again. If you plan
on using the switch then just replace it.
This may not make your o/d work but if
everything else is good as far as your o/
d working then it will solve the
problem. Hope this helps.

Message: My 92 dakota had overdrive but the switch wouldn't work, then overdrive quit working so I had it checked out and fluid changed and I replaced the switch and it still doesn't have overdrive and the switch doesn't work either. All the gears are strong and it doesn't slip, it just won't shift into overdrive. HELP.. Thanks
