Subject: gas savings IP: Logged
Message: Hi. I've got an '89 with the 3.9 liter engine. It sat for a couple of years until this past Fall. I've got it running and driving well, but the gas mileage sucks. It's somewhere around 13mpg.
Any ideas on how to increase my gas mileage? Tunes? Modifications? Since I've had it, I've installed new brake lines, new brake calipers and pads, a new master cylinder, new fuel filter, new air filter, fresh oil change, and new tires.
I'm really liking this truck but I hate the gas mileage. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Message: Some things that helped on my 1988.
0) You never mentioned it, but plugs, wires, cap,
and rotor need to be replaced if you haven't
already.
1) Get your O2 sensor checked.
2) Check the exhaust - a plugged cat on mine was
wasting gas like it was 2 cents/gallon.
3) How are you driving it? Remember "Egg on gas
pedal".
4) Do remember it's about as aerodynamic as a
brick wall, and keep the speed to 55MPH if at all
possible for a max.

Message: Proper tire size, inflation and alignment contribute quite a bit to
fuel mileage. Think about it. The easier it is to roll down the
road, the less fuel it will take.
