Message: throwout bearing, cost ya about 15 for a new one then ya gotta drop the tranny to get to it. the actual time AFTER the tranny is out is only about 2 minutes and that includes time to drink a beer and kiss your woman. If you have never pulled a tranny figure about 4-5 hours total to remove replace if you are a pro about 1-2 depending on shifter linkage.

Message: I HAVE A 2001 DODGE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. IT TOOK A FEW GOOD MECHANICS TO FIGURE IT OUT. ON MINE IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION LINKAGE THAT RUNS TO THE STREERING COLUMN BY THE FIREWALL. IN PARK THERE IS NO TORQUE ON THE TRANSMISSION AND THAT LINKAGE WAS JUST WOBBLING AROUND IN THE TRANNY. WHEN I SHIFT INTO DRIVE OR NEUTRAL IT STOPPED BECAUSE THE TRANNY HAD TORQUE ON IT AND WAS HOLDING THE LINKAGE STILL.

Message: Throwout bearings make noise when the cluch is depressed not out. So not the throwout bearing. But then again. The bearing could be just brushing the presure plate in one area as it turns indicating a defective presure plate. Next thought is the front bearing in the trany. As you press the pedal in, the trany stops turning totally causing the noise to go away. One other thought. Sinkrows . If your a hard driver(Speed shifter) you my well have damaged them. One last thought. You could have bent your shifter doing hard shifts and you have a gear brushing another. I'm sure there are other things can cause this but the ones I mentioned are those coming to mind that I run across over the years in my shop.
So many problems .... So little time
