I have a dodge dakota 96' and I am having problems with the transmission. It wont go in neutral or reverse. What type of engine do I have and what other years can I take from transmission wise?

Assuming you have a V6 any V6 auto from '96 to '03 should
be fine. There may be some differences in wiring. Are you sure
it's the trans? Have you tried servicing it?

I haven't had it serviced but my step dad
is a car guy and he thinks it's my trans.
He's been messing with it trying to figure
out what's wrong. It drives just didn't go
in neutral or reverse.
