Subject: low oil pressure IP: Logged
Message: Hello. I recently acquired a 1992 dodge dakota 3.9l v6. The oil
pressure guage reads low. And upon warming up at idle the
guage plummets and the warning light will flicker the truck will
also want to stall out if i give it light acceleration. There is no
knocking or abnormal sounds coming from the engine when
this occurs which leads me to believe it's the sending unit. Any
and all input will be appreciated. Thank you.

Message: I may be wrong but I think the pressure gauge and warning light are separate sending units. Try a manual pressure gauge. It's hard to get to the place to hook it up though. Its behind the distributor cap.

Message: Pressure guage is also the idiot light. Good idea to check that first. I thought I had low pressure so I changed the oil pump. Turned out it was a bad oil pressure sending unit. FYI the oil pumps are known to go bad too.
