Subject: 1999 3.9 L ignition coil bolts stuck

Wanted to replace my tensioner and idler pulley
today but I became stuck when trying to remove the
ignition coil to get access to the nut which holds
the tensioner in place. Both the repair manual
and a YouTube video show 10 mm bolts securing the
ignition coil to the mounting bracket, but when I
got to mine I see what appear to be dome or round
phillips head screws instead (no nut and bolt).
That wouldn't be a problem if they weren't so
stuck in there that I couldn't loosen them for the
life of me. I tried to loosen them by hand but
they are somewhat difficult to get leverage on,
even after taking out the air filer box. I was
beginning to strip the head out so I stopped and
went to buy some PB Blaster spray, sprayed them
down good and left them for 5-10 minutes, and
still cannot loosen them. This may be more of a
"rusted fastener" type question than an ignition
coil question, but I am wondering 2 things:

1. Has anyone run into SCREWS rather than
nuts/bolts securing their ignition coil to its
mounting bracket?
2. Are there any other straight forward possible
fixes other than penetrating catalyst sprays?

I will have a go at it again tomorrow with more
rounds of the Blaster spray and probably take a
hammer and try and tap the screwdriver to help
break away and rust and what not. I am a college
student and I don't have much more than a handbag
of tools and I can't really go out and buy much
right now. I talked to my dad and he mentioned a
manual impact driver, wasn't sure if anyone had
success with one of those? I can go get one for
around $20 or so. Thanks for any help I
definitely appreciate it.

I saw a spray at Pep Boys last week that supposedly freezes stuck bolts like nitrogen while lubing it at the same time. The claim on the can was...it cools the bolt down which supposedly allows the lube to penetrate deeper into the threads. Who knows but it was cheaper than an impact driver, for a few bucks it might be worth a shot.

Problem resolved. Thanks for the replies.

I left the Blaster spray on overnight and went and
bought a drill bit socket adapter to get a better
moment arm on the screws. Sprayed some more
Blaster and waited 5 minutes before attempting to
loosen again with the socket wrench and they came
off easily.

On a side note, I was hearing "chirping" on and
off from the fan belt area as if the belt was
slipping, which got progressively worse at higher
rpms, also making me think it was slipping.
Replacing the tensioner pulley, idler pulley, and
fan belt did no eliminate the noise. However, the
new tensioner DID eliminate the noise (at least
for now). About 130k miles on the truck and I
believe that was the original tensioner.
