My plate holder fell off my truck, we'll ripped
of my truck going across a stream crossing.
Anyways does Dodge make a better plate holder
then the stock ones? I have a 98 RC Dak 2x4 3.9
How much does the stock holder cost?

I would leave it off, but then the cops would
bust my path. In northern VA you must have a front license plate. It does look better with
out one. I have the new plate mounted in the
top holes of the holder but it looks to ghetto.
I'll have to call D/C and see how much a new
holder cost then I can make an offer.

27 dollars at my dealership. mine fell of when a rather large piece of concrete parked it self in front of my dak while i was at the gym. looked better with it off but the cops got me.

i took mine off i live in ohio i thought it was illegal but my friends dad, a police officer, said it wasnt.......and it looks a hell of alot better without it.

I live in Indiana. We don't need 2 stinking plates. So if anyone needs one, I would be willing to sell mine as well. 10 bucks sounds fair for something I don't need. If anyone needs one, email me at marktwain@mvillage.com.
I wouldn't imagine shipping to be all that much. 5 bucks or so. Mine is in good shape. Still on the truck...thought about taking it off and plugging the holes and repainting the bumper but here in Indiana, it has been like a tropical rain forest lately and now it seems like we might get some snow this weekend....so there go my plans, AGAIN.

The reason for two plates is: the police can run your plate if he's in front of you.. All the plate is, is a idendification device. I'm not sure if it leagal to have only one plate here in MN, but I took mine off two years ago, and have new been stopped about it, yet! If you take the plate holder off, you can argue that there wasn't a "factory" place for a plate. Might help you out of your first ticket! **I agree with you all the front license plate looks like hell on anything!** I took it off my car too!

ok for those of you that have removed your
plates.....has anyone come up with a good way to
get ride of the holes that were left in the
bumper. i'm thinking i might be able to do a lil
sanding and push them back in flush then get some
touch up paint. anyother ideas?

I removed my plate holder and used 1/4 pop rivots to cover the holes. Sanded and primed the rivets and then painted them. You can see the rivots, but only if you are looking for them. From a distance you can't see they are even there.
Thought I would post my 2 cents...

You know it is legel or not when you buy license plates. If the license branch gives you 2 plates with the same plate number then I would think that you have to use them both, front and back.
If you live in Minnesota you should know whether or not having a front plate is required or not....

DJ, I did a little digging and found under
Minnestota Statute: 169.79 Subd.6 Stateing, "One plate must be dislayed on the front and one on the rear of the vehical."
I also found that it's illegal to have "ANY" kind of protector or cover on your plates.. And for you Minnesotans.. The windsheild trick... Also illegal.. under Subt.7: Stateing " It is unlawful to cover the license plate(S) with any material what so ever, Including any clear or colorless material that affects the plate's visability or reflectivity" In which case the windsheild would cause reflection!
Hope this helps.. And yes, I find it to be B.S. too!
And just for the record.. I've had my front plate off for 2 years with no problems, am I going to put it back on?.. NOPE!

yeah i dont think they would notice if you have it off unless you are messin around and get pulled over, and even then just say you didnt know and theyl give you a warning, thnaks for lookin up that stuff
