Hi everyone. I have been visiting this site for a while now and have found the answers to virtually every Dakota issue i have had to date. Here's my current problem. I have a 2001 v6 which currently runs and is being used for work so other than general maintenance, I don't wish to take anything out of it. Here's what i have:

-I have a 2005 Dakota 4x4 with a 3.7L engine that's done. I was hoping the ticking i was getting was a sticky lifter but as it turns out, a trip to a trustworthy mechanic says she's toast. Everything else in the truck is in either great shape or needs very little to get to great shape.

-I also have a '99 Dakota sport with a perfectly purring 3.9L engine, a blown tranny, and an immaculate body.

The plan (since the 2005 is the newer body style and the 2001's body has seen better days living on the construction site for a few years) is to strip the 99 down to chassis. All body was to go on to the 2001 and give her a paint job. I was going to take the tranny to a shop to have her rebuilt and wrapped on a skid for a rainy day because well, let's be honest, dodge transmissions..... need i say more?. And finally, the 3.9L we were hoping would fit in the 2005.
So here's the million dollar question, has anyone heard of, or is anyone aware of an instance where i would be able to Frankenstein the 3.9 in place of the existing 3.7? Or am i looking at blowing another 1500 for a used 3.7? Thank you so much in advance for your advice and expertise. You guys have yet to steer me wrong!

For the '05, find a low mileage 3.7 or 4.7 V8.
Nothing in the '05 will work with the 3.9.
