Message: my questions are based on reading on here a lot
and wondering why not many people talk about
boring the 3.9 or stroking it? head work, cams and
lifters with all the other stuff, not just alone,
i understand you could go turbo with a small psi
and do some good gains but.. i wanna stay NA...
why havent i heard any about it? is it bad for
them do they just not like it.. i want to stick
with the 3.9 and build it not a 318 or 360.. oh
and thank you for helping with what ever you can.
and yes i do know i wont be looking at 100000000
hp or even 300 for that matter but a do think
these motors are severely under rated for their
potential.. and my goal which would be inportant
to know is really like a hot street truck. stop
light race or maybe to like 80-90mph nothing more

Message: Once upon a time, there were stroker kits avaiable for the 3.9. If you can find one you better buy it. Otherwise, you could do all the other rodder tricks, head work, cam, etc. If I were doing it I would go with a carb, hi lift cam, head work and squeeze as much compression as you could out of it. Of course you could go with one of those unviversal turbo kits but on a stock 3.9 I would limit boost to about 5 psi. Then find an aftermarket fuel management system/ PCM for boost, fuel and timing control. With boost detonation is a killer and these engines are prone to detonation. Alky injection can help with that also. Do some searching and reading. lots and lots. You could probably get a streetable 275 to 300 hp.

Message: thanks daddio and what are the rodder tricks your
reffering to. and tell me what you think of my
ideas for it
fastman tb 46mm
fiveomotorsports injectors
jba headers
1.7 rockers
14inch hi hat intake
msd/accel ignition
3in exhaust high flow cat flow 40 dumped
e fans, no clutch fan
when it gets retired
bore it 30 over
shaved heads
maybe a cam but would that interfere with the
rockers
modded ram air hood

Message: I wouldn't put a full 3" exhaust. That might be a little too large. If you can find them, '92 to '93 exhaust manifolds flow better than any other year. Then a 3" y-pipe form there to a hi flow cat, 2.5" back from there to a free flowing muffler of your choice. Ohter than that, you've got a good list. You can also think about gears and or a locking diff.

Message: I've got an '00 QC 2wd 3.9, 5 spd w/ 235/75/15's. I've got a V8 TB, underdrive crank pulley, CPS mod and ditched the clutch fan. I get up to 24MPG hwy and about 18-19 city. With 150k on it and its running great.
I don't know if that Fastman TB will return the low end or not. Do you have an auto trans? Check your gear ratio. Try looking on the glovebox lid. If you have the 3.21:1 ratio you would benefit greatly going to something like 3.92:1 or 4.10:1

Message: My truck did not like the IAT mod. It just used more fuel with no gains. But, one thing I've learned, every one of these trucks has a different personality and will not react the same. The CPS mod is easy. Search the site you'll find it. As for the gear ratio, check the inside of the glovebox lid it should have the ratio that the truck was built with.

Message: Crank Position Sensor = CPS. Look behind the passenger side head at the top of the bellhousing. If you have a manual trans the sensor probably has a plastic housing as mine does. Unplug the connector to it and remove it. Then elongate the moounting holes on the sensor so you can slide towards the starter. You won't get much. Maybe a 1/4" or so of movement. I think worth about 2 or 3 degrees more of timing.
