Subject: 01 3.9 rough idle/wot IP: Logged
Message: I've never owned a dodge so i have no idea what the common problems or what to check but just picked up a 01 3.9 dakota sport 4wd for a winter beater for next to nothing. It has 104000mi and was a basket case. Replaced plugs/wires, fuel and air filter, one o2sensor, and two broken exhaust manifold bolts. It runs considerably better but it still has a rough idle and sometimes stumbles to where it almost stalls, it runs good at half throttle decent power (for a six) and nice responce but if I get into it while climbing a hil it has a faint but noticeable surge. Its not throwing any codes since the o2 change just wondered what to look at next or now that i'm getting more power is the tranny going (fluid not changed since i got it and its clean and pink) Thanks in advance Doug

Message: Start by removing the TB then the IAC
(located on the back of the TB)
Clean them both, Re'install with a new TB gasket.
Check for vacuum leaks & also check fuel pressure.
(put a gauge on the schrader valve on fuel rail)

"Replaced plugs/wires,"
How about cap & rotor? It completes the tune up.

Message: If your revving passed 4400rpm you hit the rev limit which
causes the engine to miss it cuts two cylinders out

Message: +1 on the cap and rotor. Especially if the cap has aluminum contacts instead of brass, it oxidizes quickly into a loose, white powder.
