2001 Dakota v6 - Engine sounds very loud when I take it out... like its revving high but its not, revs appear normal 1500-2900. Oil level is fine and changed a cpl months ago. Had rear end replaced recently and tranny fluid is ok too.

Maybe oil pump? Suggestions??

Thanks,

William

It's normal when the engine is cold, the first time you drive in first gear; then it should go to normal. If it's more than that, change the fan clutch.

Interesting note - Taking off the fan clutch is very difficult if rusted and been on for a long time. The water pump pully mechanism turns so you cant turn the large nut to get it off.

After 2 hours of improvising ways to hold the pully (tried vice grips on the pully, wire cables through the water pump holes etc..) What finally worked was I put an L-shaped allen key in one of the holes on the pulley and brace it against the top of the pulley below, so I was able to stop the pulley from moving so I could actually crank the nut off. Took all my strength but I was very relieved to get it off eventually.
