Message: Working on a car for someone and i'm doing it for
nil. I think under the circumstances anyone would
feel the same way. It's her only ride to work.
First damn Car I couldn't fix.
95 Taurus
Started acting weird on her
she was told trans needed to be rebuilt
told her wait i pull the codes
gives codes for every dam sensor in the car
so I run the A B C's
Alternator tested 3 times good
Battery load tested 100%
Connections new cables ends and i cleaned and did
every ground
Clear the codes day later same thing
i put new temp sensors Intake air and coolant
clear codes same thing all sensor are coming up
including the 2 new ones
then i get 2 new ones intermittent problems with
park/neutral switch
&
no or low volts to key power to pcm pin #5
check all pcm connections their clean and good
I'm down to 2 things pcm is going or whats the
chances this park/neutral switch might be dropping
the power to the pcm?
it's not the usual switch its all electronic 8
wires and mounted right into the top of the trans.
or sh*t could the ignition switch be causing this?
called the big local ford dealer talked to their
super in the service dept. not him or 1 of his
guys had any idea
Hoping you & maybe Larry can give me some ideas
cause I'm at wits end...

Message: Is this an intermittent problem? I don't think that park/neutral safety switch would cut power to the pcm.

Message: As stated all grounds were removed cleaned
(both wire and metal surface) and re'attached.
Was the 1st thing I thought of too so,
I went through the ABC's
Alternator
Battery
Connections
&
Yes intermittent.
Pull over, Put it in park and you're good to go
for "X" amount of time untill if/when it acts up
again.
Here's a kicker
When it acts up you can smell raw fuel
(most likely from sensors shutting down)
but only does this when driving.
Let it sit at idle for hours and nothing.
(even put an old blank out front to block the rad
and get it to heat up (without B/O ofcourse)
and it won't act up.
Starting to feel like I'm chasing gremlins...

Message: Have you reset the PCM? Try that. It could be the root of the problems. The OBD PCM's were a lot more prone to failure than OBDII. You could probably find a cheap one in a pull a part yard. There should be a ton of Taurus' aroundd the same year in some of those yards.

Message: Yeah I'm going to try another if they don't want
to much. The thing that worries me no idea if the
car your getting it from was junked for the very
same reason.
Latest code I got now is *open circuit P/N switch*
Over the next couple of days I'm going to get in
there and track down all the wires from the P/N
switch. I keep thinking for some reason that
switch is the root of my problems.
(I'll keep you guys posted)

Message: A wiring diagram would be a plus. That way you would know if that switch can cause those problems. Have you tried google for any help with this? You'd be amazed what you might find.

Message: Daddio I think I got it
No power to pin #5...
Power supplied to pin #5 comes from what Ford
calls the "turbine shaft speed sensor" or more
commonly know as the "input speed sensor.
This sensor tells the pcm how fast the motor is
turning & a incorrect signal will make it drop
power or supply no power to the pcm and other
sensors. (pretty much what this thing is doing)
I can get to it from the top of the trans.
I'll post back in a few days and let you know how
it goes.

Message: Done deal guys,
Appreciate the help and idea's.
I figure this info might be helpful to someone else,
Considering most all have both input & output speed
sensors. If you're getting multiple sensor fault
codes (even with new sensors) I would look to the
input speed sensor.
