Subject: 1995 3.9L V6 Dakota Fuel Pump Issue IP: Logged
Message: So, out of the blue, my 1995 Dodge Dakota just quit running. Walked out to crank it and it just starts sputtering, and just dies. Starter fluid or gas in the carb gets it going, and I am getting spark.
So, I purchased a fuel pump, and spent most of the morning putting it on. When I cycle the key, I can feel the pump run, but it won't crank, and if I remove the fuel line from the pump and crank or cycle, I can still feel the pump turn over, but no gas comes out.
I am at a loss. Does the line need to be primed, or anything? Anyone got any suggestions?

Message: Actually, I solved this by watching a YouTube video. The problem, for anyone that runs into this, was that there is an alignment mark on the top of the fuel pump, and a set on the fuel tank. It appears that unless these are aligned correctly, the float will not float properly. My theory is, although I do not know, is that if the float is not registering gas, which there was plenty, it will not allow the pump to actually run.
Anyway, taking it out, reseating and aligning it seems to have worked fine. Cranked on the third crank.
