Subject: need advice on mods IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2004 3.7L 2WD 80K miles. I just started
driving a lot more for work and need to improve my
MPG. Right now I'm getting about 18 around town. I'm
thinking better spark plugs first? Which kind is
best? What else? Thanks for your advice!

Message: Try an electric fan, reduced rear axle ratio, underdrive pulleys,
tonneau cover, smaller wheels, reduced right pedal travel.

Message: Autolites and the NGK Frp 5 run best in these trucks I

Message: I would recommend the E-3 plugs, I have been using them and they are great plugs. I got a smoother running engine, and slightly better fuel mileage. I was using Halo's they are great too, but way more expensive.
Good luck

Message: While these mods may offer very slightly improved gas mileage (say, 19 mpg instead of 18), first look at the cost difference in that one mpg for the driving you do, and look at the cost of all these mods and see if it makes sense. For instance, if you gain 1 or 2 mpg, but spend $300 on mods, and save only $100 a year on gas, you've just lost $200 in order to save fuel.
