Subject: Heater Core IP: Logged
Message: Ok so I replaced my heater core about 10,000 miles ago. And
well now it's leaking a little.
It was a cheap one, does anyone know a good brand of
heater cores or what part i should buy?
Sucks. I cant believe i have take it apart again, im gonna do a
write up.
My truck is overheating when it's on idle or when I'm at a
drive thru waiting, seems to overheat faster on heavier loads,
when the truck is running down the road it's cool. This is
could be cause of the heater core leaking right?

Message: Are you losing coolant? If there is a leak they will usually run a little hotter than normal because of the pressure loss. And then they'll eventually overheat because of the coolant loss.

Message: Mild coolant loss, and yes I notice my truck overheating a
little then it goes down. I had a thermostat put on there and I
told the shop to flush it, I guess they didn't, how do I flush the
system? And I'm going to put a new one in there.

WTF?! All these people had problems with this and there
was no recall? And not to mention some of them went
through 5 heater cores!!!!!!!
I don't want to replace mine 5 times. It will make me super
mad.
Anybody know of any reliable heater cores?

Message: Maybe it's a maintenance problem. I've got over 135K on mine with no leaks. Knocks on wood!

Message: Maybe? I doubt it, replacing 5 heater cores is not
maintenance problems every 6 months. I'm gonna bypass
mine anyway to see if that's the cause of my overheating.
I'm glad it doesn't reach 210 though. But it's like a millimeter
off LOL.
but man! Which heater cores do last on these trucks, any
know?

Message: So I read a little more, and I read that it's the pressure on the
system that might be a cause for them leaking, so I decided
to get a new one but I need to flush my system, how do I
flush my cooling system that way nothing clogs up my heater
core causing it to leak from pressure?

Message: If you go to autozone and ask for a cooland flushing kit and ask someone to explain it to you. That's what I did. And there are also directions on the box. But drive your truck there and have them go over it with you because I thought it was confusing going by the box.
I would do this before doing the heater core
