Hello, I have a 99 3.9 Dakota that has issues with starting first thing in the morning or after sitting for more than 8 hours. It will start normally then drop down to idle and die. It will do this every start attempt thereafter until the truck is driven for a while and it won't do it for the rest of the day unless it sits all day. It throws no light and no code on my meter.

The thing that I'm ruling out now is bad fuel or water condensing in the fuel as we have had a considerable weather shift for the warmer(nearly an 80 degree change since I filled up).

However, I have a feeling that I'm not going to get that lucky... Any input would be nice... I've heard it all from fuel pressure bleed down, bad intake side sensors, water in fuel, to a bad pump.

Low battery. Have it charged and load-tested.

I thank you for your replies... the battery was load tested enough with the -20ish temps we were getting and it would start fine, so I didn't feel the need to break out the load tester... However, I did find the problem. It was a missing vacuum cap... Now if anyone has any comments on what I should do to clean out any sediments now that my truck has been running for a few weeks without one... that would be great. Oil was the first to go.:P
