 Subject: electric fan upgrade

just thinking of some new upgrades that might help pull a few more horsepower out of the lil V6... anyone know of any problems taking off the stock fan and replacing it with a electric fan? just wanna make sure it wouldn't hurt anything even if it doesn't help much... any info would help thanks

Mark, what year is your truck? Starting in '00 Dodge put an electric fan along with the mechanical fan. I have been running mine without the mechanical fan for about 6 years with no problems. Go for it.

oh sorry... 1997 dakota slt 4x4 club cab... the fan is mounted to the engine... just wondering if will make the computer throw a code or throw the engine off balance... just dont wanna regret doing it...

It won't, just take it off, carry it with u in ur truck just in case
ur car over heats, my truck didn't like it. It's not hard to take
off or put back on. And it's worth a shot. And I'm not saying
take the electric fan off, take the mechanical/clutch fan off.

Find a good aftermarket fan w/ a thermostat control, install it and remove the mechanical fan and you'll be good.

I went to the junk yard several years ago and got the largest
electric fan I could find then bought an installation kit with a
thermostat. Works great and I have had no overheating
problems at all. I live in Florida and pull a boat all the time.

rip the mechanical off. the computer will kick the eletric fan on when it hits 205 degrees i believe. i took mine off and havent had an issue with it. and motor seems to spin up slightly faster.
