Message: Been reading all these posts about belly pan gaskets, so since mine is "using" alot of oil, decided to look into this. Saw somewhere that a simple test is to remove the breather hose, then pull the PCV. If you put your thumb over the PCV hole and feel sucking, the gasket is bad. If it blows, your OK. Anyone heard this before, will it work?

Message: That hose goes right to the intake manifold which always has vacuum so air will never be blowing out.

Message: I'd like to know if there is a simple test as well. My 2002 is pinging and burning oil but I dont see any pooling of oil down in the intake manifold.

Message: You're right about PCV hose going to intake and having vacuum, but didn't mean put thumb over PCV itself, put thumb over PCV hole in valve cover. Shouldn't be vacuum there.
