I have just bought a 98 dakota v6 5 speed check engine light
was on when I bought it. When I started it and let it idle for
a period of time it starts stumbling real bad if you shut it off
and restart it it would go away for a short period of time.
Hoked it up to a scanner and hot eleven dtcs. Misfire on
every cylinder, distributer circuit failure, coil failure, etc. so I
replaced the coil and reset the computer. Next day it started
doing it again and the light came on. It said p1391
manufacturers computer ignition system failure or misfire.
Online that code states camshaft or crankshaft sensor
failure. What do you think it could be?

I would say it is the crankshaft sensor.

Before you replace it, disconnect the battery cables, touch the positive and negative cables together to erase all memory from the computer.

Once you start it the computer will relearn!

As out turns out the sensor is too long for the truck. Is for an
auto mine is stick. Some one finagled the sensor with only
one bolt holding out in and the sensor was actually rubbing
the fly wheel. I can't replace it yet so I put four washers(two
on both sides) between the bracket and bell housing to give
it space and it works great.
