The heater hose coming from the water pump is going to the bottom of the heater core, is that correct? I flushed the heater core and put in a new thermostat but still not as hot as it should be. I did put the hoses back the way they were.

Did you backflush the heater core? Reversing the flow through the heater core is the proper way to flush it. And are you sure the cooling system is filled?

Yes, I did reverse flush. My temp gauge is at about 170 and the heat feels that hot.

Which thermostat did you put in ? a 180 ?
Or the 'standard' 195 ?

Did you bleed your cooling system? Is sounds to me that you have air trapped in there. It's really simple. Just take your radiator cap off (while it's cool) and run your truck with the cap off until it's hot. Air will come out, so just keep topping it off. And you'll see the t-stat open because the coolant in the radiator will drop. I hope this helps.
