Subject: Successful V6/V8 Swap? IP: Logged
Message: I just swapped out my V6 TB with a slightly modified V8 TB from an R/T. I was expecting a rough idle when I started her up for the first time, but no such thing. It appears that everything went very smooth. I can't really say that I notice any peformance difference though. I almost think that I accidentally put the V6 TB back on. =) Okay, here's my big question. Is it normal for the accelerator pedal to be closer to the floor than when I had it hooked up to the V6 throttle cable? My foot noticed right away that it was about an inch or so closer to the floor than before. I suppose I might feel a performance difference if I wasn't going through the stock airbox. The air intake is my next mod.

Message: Your pedal travel should be the same not shorter.
Every post I've ever read about a V8 TB swap on a Gen3 V6 needed a V8 cable, maybe thats whats wrong.

Message: Sorry if that wasn't clear, but I DID swap the V6 cable with the V8 cable. Maybe I haven't really felt a performance difference because the PCM hasn't relearned the new configuration yet? I'll have to check the install again... it just seems way too easy to floor it now.

Message: yeah i did the same swap about two months ago man...give the PCM about a tank of gas to relearn and you'll feel a difference
I felt a good difference when i'm just cruising with my auto and i floor it, it really jumps up there.

Message: I rechecked the linkage and installation and everything is fine. Where should I be feeling the performance difference? Around 2500 rpms?

Message: Okay, I'm convinced that the reason I'm not feeling any performance difference is because the TB butterflies aren't being opened enough due to the pedal being so close to the floor. I don't understand what's going on. I did everything correctly. I double checked and triple checked everything. The only thing I can think of is that the 2002 has a different length TB cable??

Message: Mystery solved. I compared the V6 TB cable with the V8 TB cable and the V8 cable is longer. That's the reason the accelerator pedal is closer to the floor AND the reason I didn't notice a performance difference. The longer cable isn't pulling the butterflies open all the way. Grr...
