Message: I have a 95 3.9 v6 dakota also, i have 116 thousand miles
and ive put a k&n air filter along with bosch platnum+2 plugs
and a hush thrush turbo muffaler.. I have started to knotice
that cold starts are a bit rough but after a 4 minnet warm up it
runs fine. I get around 18 mpg average but im 16 so my foot
gets heaver at times(; i Want to change my O2 sensors in
hope of a little better mileage but it seems to not have quite
the power it should. Its got a good roar to it around 2300 rpm
but doesnt like to shift down when floored. I personaly belive
that if you have an aftermarket catconverter instaled your
milage should greatly increase. The right amount of back
preasure is the key in many older cars

Message: Did you do a complete tuneup? Cap, rotor wires? Every component must be operating properly to acheive the best mileage.
What configuration is your truck? 4x4, 4x2, CC, RC? One thing most overlooked when trying to increase milease is the tires. Size, proper inflation and alignment or key to getting more mpg.
My '00 QC, 4x2, 3.9 5spd w/ over 140k miles gets about 18 mpg in the city and average 23 hwy. Nothing fancy. V8 TB, $20 turbo muffler, CPS mod, underdrive crank pulley and a good tuneup.
By the way, you are misinformed about your vehicles exhaust. May I suggest you do some more reading on the subject?

Message: Aftermarket catcons are not inherently better. High-flow catcons are the same or slightly better than stock.
18 mpg is average for this vehicle. The mods you've done make virtually no difference in gas mileage.
As suggested, start with a full tuneup, use quality parts, and cap and wires with brass contacts instead of aluminum (which oxidizes readily into a white powdery residue). Check your downshift (throttle valve "TV") cable for proper adjustment and for no binding.

symptoms of a worn dist. bushing &/or drive gear.

Message: I have a 95 dodge Dakota w/3.9L V6 and I see that a failing battery will cause idle problems. will a alternator do the same if the out put is not up to specs. what the problem I am having is when I come to a stop it seams to stumble a bit, then the idle drops and it stalls. I put a new battery in and for the first 20 miles seemed better then it started doing it again. I had the alternator checked and was told it was fine. so I am not sure if this is my only problem. what else could I look at. other than that its fine for a truck with 272,000 mi. on it.
