Message: I've done it all. comp. check is 120, fuel press ok, swaped injecters. The darn motor wants to shut down, I think #6cyl. drivers side nearest the firewall. it gets spark, injecter voltage seems to pulse when I hooked up multimeter. We can drive to the store with the miss, about a mile, start it up to drive home and no miss, no nothing, purrs like a kitten. went out earlier and started it up, the miss is there again. THAT'S THE SYMPTOMS....HELP.

Message: Only thing I can think of is the 115 wire splice.
Go under hood, Drivers side inner fender well
Black Fuse & Relay box
Carefully remove it,
Untape the wire harness behind it
You are looking for a splice of 3 to 4 wires
(red - white striped)
The splice usually gets crudded up or breaks
altogether.
(can cause all sorts of crazy problems)

Message: OK, one your first post you mentioned cyl #3 and on your second post you mention cyl#6. Which is it? When you swapped injectors did the miss follow the injector that was swapped out?
If it's an intermittent miss, I would say it's electrical or the injector.

Message: And cyl #6 is the passenger side at firewall. Driver's side is 1, 3, 5 and passenger side is 2, 4, 6.
Check the plug/harness to the injector at the faulty cylinder. Could be cracked insulation, wire shorting out.
Did you check fault codes?

Message: I've had, pretty much this SAME EXACT problem for the past 5 years. Every now and then my '98 V6 4x4 will run perfectly. So perfectly that it catches my attention and I begin to pat myself on the back for taking such good care of my truck. Then, out of nowhere, it will run a little rough at idle. As if someone pulled out one of my plug wires when I wasn't looking.
Then the 'check engine' light comes on. I check it out with my simple code reader and it's always the same thing: misfire cyl #3. It just seems to 'heal itself' if I continue to drive it for a few more days, usually after 200-400 miles. The engine will return to it's normal performance way before the mil code turns itself off. I've swapped the fuel injector a few times with another cylinder, but the problem is always caused from cylinder #3. I'm not going to worry about it anymore because the problem's so predictable, it's been going on for years, and I have 310,000 miles on it.

Message: I checked out the 115 splice and everything seems fine. However, I did put a vacum pump on the EGR valve and as soon as I apply any slight vacum, it really runs like crap. So, today I will put a solid gasket so no exhuast can get thru. Just a hunch, but that is all I have left, hunches. lenny
