Subject: 1987 Dakota Stalling IP: Logged
Message: Hi all. In the last month I've been having some issues with stalling. It happens when I'm parked, driving, stopped, and pretty much any other time after the engine has been running for at least a minute. So far I've replaced the fuel filter and pump, the distributor cap and rotor, and the coil.
I've taken it to two different Dodge dealers and have paid $85 both times only for them to decide there's nothing wrong with it. The truck itself is in great shape for it's age as far as the body goes. It only has 81k miles so I don't think it was driven all that much before I got it. I've had it for 2 years and up until now I haven't had a single issue with it.
Any suggestions?

Message: Had similar problem on '87 Dakota 3.9L carburator engine that I bought new, checked all possible common items. Everything checked OK. Finally replaced Hall Effect pickup assembly, PROBLEM SOLVED. Hall Effect pickup assembly is located in the distributor under the rotor.

Message: Alright, I'll try replacing that. What exactly is a Hall Effect pickup? What does it look like? Where can I get one? Is it easy to replace?
Also, after stalling, sometimes it'll start right back up but it usually takes 2-5 minutes. Were you experiencing that as well?
