Subject: How to remove IAC screws IP: Logged
Message: All: Tried removing the IAC from my 02 V6 with no luck. The torx head screw on the drivers side was no issue. It was the darn screw on the passenger side of the IAC. Its positioned so low on the throttle body that my ratchet hits the manifold and engages the torx head screw on an angle. Couldnt get the darn thing out. What tool or combination thereof have you all used to get the T25 screws out? Thx>>AJ

Message: I took the throttle body off first, which made it easy. It also allowed me to check the plenum for oil and to clean it, and clean the whole throttle body.

Message: Thx Bob. There has to be a way to take the screws out without removing the TB. I saw on the internet that they have L shaped torx wrenches just like the old hex head wrenches. I just dont think enough pressure can be applied to keep the bit head engaged with the head of the torx screw while turning. Those screws are fairly tight. Hopefully I'll get some other good ideas from the Dakota experts.>>AJ

Message: Yea: Yes that is what I tried. Problem is the body of the ratchet contacts the surface of the manifold and doesnt allow the torx bit to mate with the head of the torx screw at a 0 degree angle. It mates on a slight angle which doesnt allow enough bite to get the screw out.

Message: I know there are flex drive extensions out there. If you find one for 1/4" drive, that would work.
The factory cranks these screws and probably uses threadlocker, but the torque setting according to the FSM is only 20 inch-lbs, which is just snug.

Message: Here is the simplest way to remove the screw you are
talking about. Remove the Torx bit from the socket
and insert into the screw head. Then take a small
combination box wrench and slide over the torx bit.
You should have just enough room to guide the bit
with your finger while you use the wrench to break
it loose. Once you have it lose, you can spin it
the rest of the way out by hand. Use this process
in reverse to reinstall.

Message: This whole post is foolish. Think about it, If the
IAC is dirty or needs to be changed out the under
side of that TB is dirty! Pull the whole thing off
and get a new TB gasket.
