I bought a 92 dakota extended cab 4x4, the guy that i got it from never could fix the problem on it, it has a 3.9 v6 sometimes when you start it up it will die or run with no power and just backfire and pop in the motor if you turn it off a few times it corrects it, then when your driving it will start jerking and popping but if you put it into N and rev up the motor it will fix it, the guy I got it from changed the coil plugs wires and replaced the computer twice, I have replaced the fuel pump since it did go out and filter, but the problem still happens also no check engine light comes on and it just past emmissions test.

Check the wiring harness under the underhood fuse box. Down about 6 inches or so a splice with 3 wires spliced to one. Red or red/white. It usually corrodes and needs to be redone and soldered properly.

check your codes to see what they say. maybe the egr is plugged or

Things to check:
Make sure check engine light works.
Check Dist. Bushings.
Check Dist. drive gear.
Spark plug wire routing. (arching/cross fire)
Is the motor pinging?
Check intake plen. gasket.
