Message: Oooh maybe u guys can help.
Well so far,
I'm trying to get the best MPG and performance(accel amd
torque!!!) on my Dakota.
It's a dodge Dakota 2000 3.9L SLT,
and so far what I've got are,
relocated Iat sensor mod
removed rubber flap
volant cold air intake
accel coil module, plugs and wires,(package deal)
magnaflow exhaust at 3 in out. And it's a single
new up and downstream o2 sensors.
180 t-stat
crank pos sensor mod
Yep.....sounds like I'm not even halfway there
but the 24 of this month I'm gettin
the F n B TB 50 mm cause they don't make the
48's anymore.
Tell me what you guys think? And what mod should
be next?
I was thinking of headers but way too expensive
for little gains of HP.

Message: That F & B 50mm is going to be too big. Go find yourself a used V8 TB instead and save some coin. You may have to midify the linkage or buy a V8 throttle cable. Also, if you haven't yet, remove the mechanical fan. I removed mine about 6 yrs ago and haven't looked back.
I hate to tell you this also but, that 3" exhaust is too big also. And don't forget the CPS mod.
Have fun!

Message: Well I did that cps mod already and got great results.
I talked to a guy about the 50 mm
and he said as long as I got more mods then the
better the truck will run faster, btw same
thing with the 3" pipe, the more mods I put
the better it will be with the 3" pipe...
And the fan? I don't even know how to
get in there lol, I'm gonna have a look at it...
And for pipe size...what would u recommend?
Instead of the 3"?
I'm a newbie. Just started 2 months ago and wow this
site is awesome lol.
Even though I'm like 10 yrs late.

Message: As stated above a 50mm TB is too big. A stock V8TB
or the Fastman is the way too go.
Also 3 inch exhaust pipe is too big. Unless you have
a very large cam and alot of head work done you will
lose bottom end power and MPG's as well.

Message: Thanks guys. So I'm gonna go with the fastman. Dan
sounded like he made sense. As for my 3" pipe, the Best
Muffler shop is gonna get yelled at. They told me 3" pipe
would be better...ah it's kool.
Ok so wat about headers?

Message: Without serious mods, like a stroked crankshaft, etc.., the 50mm TB is too big. You will not be happy with low end performance. Same goes for the 3" exhaust. 3" will reduce off the line performance. 2.5" exhaust is optimum for the 3.9. I've got a V8 TB on mine and it is great. I had the stock them modded then went to the V8 TB.
As far as removing the mechanical fan it's just a turn of the wrench. You can get the Fastman TB but I really don't think you'rll be happy. You'd be better off spending practically the same amount for Harland Sharp 1.7 Roller Rocker arms and get more perfromance than the TB wil give.
You don't have to take my advice, I've only been around here about 7 yrs.

Message: Alright so I did some research, so
for roller rockers, I just unbolt the
valve covers off, throw em on there...
But I don't know how tight they supposed to
be on there...or calibration?
Anything I need to know for installation of these?
I've opened it up so seems like
I can do the job. And I decided,
Fastman TB, Roller Rockers Harland sharps
and then go to the shop an tell
em to put a 2 and a half pipe on my truck.(the stock one).
An finally after all that is done, I might think about the
headers
later if I can spare some cash.
Any recommendations? Or comments?

Message: I don't understand how installation goes.
I thought u just bolt the rocker
on there with the arms...damn it's
more complicated than that...
So how do I Torque em and let
em bleed down(whatever that means)...
Oh and I'm not gonna take the fan off.
It's too hot in Vegas and it will overheat
my truck...
I decided to go RR(if I can do em myself)
and fastman TB. Headers will be my next paycheck.
Then an SCT tuner. Yeah. Sounds good.

Message: Ok so I did more homework.
What specs do they need to be torqued
to? I got 3.9L year 2000.
And by bleed u mean put oil on em
right?
And how do I know where TDC is?
I'm having trouble
understanding the way you set them on
there for TDC...
Ok I understand how to bolt em and
the tourqing.
