Mine does it to. I would replace the sending unit for the tach but I have no idea where it is. Does anyone know where it is and where i can find one?

Finally got around to trying to chase this down. Was on a long road trip and my tach, alt gauge, chk eng and gen light were all going nuts.
So in the motel parking lot one morning I started going over the truck.
I disconnected the battery (both terms) and then unplugged and replugged a sensor on the transmission.
Looking around under the hood I found a bolt backed out about 1/4 inch on top of either the alternator or a/c compressor mount that had a pretty hefty wire leading to it with an eye fastener. I think the wire was black with a grey strip. Anyway, tightened that back down and everything is OK now.
BTW, even with the truck loaded with furniture on the way back home I was getting 18.5 mpg at 70 mph on the interstate.
