Subject: 93 Dakota slipping out of overdrive IP: Logged
Message: I've been having this problem lately, it only does it after i've been driving at least 20 minutes, and is markedly worse on hot days. i've replaced the TPS, and it did not fix it. It does it when I let off the gas above 50 MPH. It's kind of intermittent, but like I said, worse on hot days. The transmission place is wanting to do an "In depth" electrical testing for 150 bucks... anything I should try to replace first?

I think you'll find the $150 test unrevealing, so I would not do it. Something else to check:
Buy a transmission filter and pan gasket and change the fluid (ATF+4) and filter. While the pan is off, look on the passenger side of the throttle body. There should be a solenoid pack screwed on with 3 torx screws. Make sure they're tight. If not, it can slip out of overdrive, and also can cause the lockup torque converter not to disengage all the time.
You can also check the plug for this, on the left rear corner of tranny, and also check the plug for the TPS and its wiring.

It's also possible that the new TPS is also bad. I've been hearing about a lot of defective replacement sensors lately. I don't buy them from Autozone or Pep Boys anymore. Advance Auto and NAPA seem to be more reliable.
