go to http://knightturbos.com i'll try to find the guys email addy, but you can prolly just call the number on the site. they do custom turbo/supercharger setups for just about anything you want. tell them what you're looking for and they'll probably be able to do it.

We'll let ya know about a complete "Bolt-On" kit within the next 60 days. We've got most of the parts ready (including an intercooler) but need to have all the pipes bent to fit. (It's a twin turbo system as it's easier to make and more efficient than a single.)

I have some questions on this:

1) What kind of price tag is associated with this setup?
2) What kind of an installation is it? Driveway or professional only?
3) What would be the pro's and cons of a turbo verses a supercharger on a 3.9L Dak.

Bernd--I'm looking for the next step sometime in the coming year, I was thinking a S/C was my only option, but a twin turbo sounds like a more agressive setup. Could you tell me some of the particulars??

Shawn

If the kit is feasible, probably around $3500-$4000. Same price as a supercharger though.

(1) See above
(2) We're trying to make it a complete "Driveway Bolt-On"
(3) Pros...slightly more efficient - Cons...More heat under the hood

The system we're toying around with is a 9-10# system...same boost level as my Powerdyne (and the Powerdyne ran $2200 when I purchased it last year on a group buy).

The adapters for the turbo's are readily available for most stock manifolds...the hard part is having the tubing bent to fit.

If you want to do it yourself...keep it simple and use a Turbo unit with integral wastegate. The electronically controlled units are the best as you can adjust them from your seat (more or less boost depending on your mood.) :)

Bernd, if you need a test truck, I got one! I have been looking into this as, I am not sure I want to go the S/C route. For that count me in. Is the 9-10lbs boost max, eventually I want to run like 12-14lbs, when at the track.

The 3.9L can handle 11# without any problems (yes...i've tried that). Probably more than that as the head design is superior to the 5.2/5.9L.

Yes, you can run a Super/Turbo charged engine. Cost-wise, it's not feasible unless you're a professional and have the sponsors (or the money) to do this. There's a lot of older dragsters and other race vehicles that have used both.

The test truck would need to help out with the initial cost (about $1000) and everything would be offered to you at our cost...also would need the truck for about 1 week for fitting and testing.

Bernd, third questions:
IP: Logged

Message:
1. What are the chances the turbo system will be smog legal in Cali? Damn visual inspection.

2. How is the head design different on the 3.9? I figured it would be the same, as most the parts are, only v6 size.

3. Is the turbo company out of Texas like yourself? When is the test truck needed by, roughly? I have a month off between classes and family across TX.

Eli

(1) Not a chance...unless someone wants to loan un $10,000 for CARB certification testing
(2) Head Bolts and chambers
(3) Yes...and no. We're looking at the testing after X-Mas.

SteveO: Any turbo supplier will have them...we jsut chose Turbonetics and another local supplier as we've got contacts who work there.

Check either on the website (in a few months for the 3.9/5.2/5.9L kit) or you can contact Tom North at: prodog@swbell.net (He's the engineer on the turbo kits...I just take care of the fuel and tuning).
