 Subject: 88 V6 loud screech when lightly accel?

88 V6 Auto 125k miles
When I put my foot on the accelerator lightly I hear a sound that sounds like a circular saw with a loose blade. If I am more heavy with the gas it sounds fine, but also makes a little noise sometimes when slowing down as well.
It seems like the tranny engaging and something has too much play.
Do you think it could be the Torque Converter?

Yes, positive, it's coming from mid to rear-end area. It doesn't sound like a belt slipping (if that is what you were getting at.) The engine runs smooth.
I just got the truck, and it's my first dodge, I'm planning to drop the pan and change out the tranny fluid and replace pan gasket (I've made myself familiar with the FAQ that advises the type of fluid to use as well). It seems like it clunks into gear pretty hard, but I'm not a good one to judge this, as this is my first automatic in 15 years.
